A waitress at a Red Lobster in Tennessee who last month uploaded a photo of a receipt on which she said a customer had scrawled a racial slur has received a $10,000 tip for her troubles.

Toni Christina Jenkins, a 19-year-old waitress at a Nashville-area Red Lobster, received a flood of online attention in early September after a customer wrote the words “None Ni**er” where the tip and total should have appeared on a receipt, according to her account of the incident.

“This is what I got as a tip last night…so happy to live in the proud southern states..God Bless America, the land of the free and home of the low class racists of Tennessee,” Jenkins, a nursing student, wrote when she posted the image.

Her frustration caught the eye of founder Matthew Hanson, Good Morning America reported, and he decided Toni deserved much more than a zero dollar tip. Hanson hosted a whirlwind fundraiser called Tips for Toni that raised $10,749 in 72 hours, according to GMA. He told the news outlet he wanted to send a message that racism will not stand.

Jenkins told ABC News she was very thankful for the support.

“I literally screamed. I was so confused,” Jenkins said. “I was just so thankful. I felt so blessed and so honored that so many people came together on my behalf to give this to me,” she told ABC.

Red Lobster suspended Jenkins with pay after the incident for breaking a company policy against posting customers’ receipts, according to Good Morning America, but she has since started working again.
